Shungiku Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum Coronarium)
- Known as Shungiku in Japan but also popular with other name ie, Garland chrysanthemums, crown daisy, chop suey greens, Tong Hao in China and Tan O in Vietnam. The leaves and stems have a slightly succulent texture, delicious and aromatic and very popular in South China, Japan and South Asia for stir-fry, soups and salad.
- The leaves are a nutritious green rich in fiber, Vitamins A and C, calcium, flavonoids and high in potassium, offering more of the mineral than even bananas. Not only that it also contain the antioxidant chlorogenic acid or hydroxycinnamic acid which can be found in coffee beans.
- It is believe this antioxidant can use as a weight loss aid because of its ability to slow glucose release and absorption after eating. The nutrients found in chrysanthemum leaves are at their highest when enjoyed raw.
- If allowed to flower, it it will produce abundance of beautiful yellow flowers.
